Sopore families of two victims await justice

Srinagar, February 21 : One year after the killing of two young youth by Indian troops in  Bomai Sopore, people stands out as a monument of broken assurances and miscarriage of justice.

Civil society vow to seek justice for rape victims from Kunanposhpora to Shopian

Srinagar, February 24 ):The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Societies (JKCCS), Majlis-e-Mashawrat Shopian (MMS), Kashmiri Pandit Sangarash Simiti (KPSS) and Trade Union Centre (TUC)  jointly staged a sit-in at Pratap Park in Srinagar on the 19th anniversary of Kunanposhpora mass rape incident. On February 23, 1991, Indian army personnel raided Kunanposhpora village and molested over 32 Kashmiri women.

17 houses destroyed, 32 damaged, over 100 homeless: Sopore residents

Srinagar, Feb 27: The people of Sheikh Sahab locality of Chinkipora in Sopore have returned to their areas virtually turned into rubble after four days siege and search operation. There were 54 houses damaged.  At least 17 houses have been completely destroyed and others damaged.

20 years of wait for justice; victims’ kin await justice in Kashmir

Srinagar, March 02: The memories of massacres still haunts the survivors of carnage carried on scores of unarmed peaceful demonstrators by Indian troops in Zakura Crossing and Tengpora after opening indiscriminate firing on them on March 1, 1990. Exactly 20 years back on March 1, 1990, 26 unarmed demonstrators who were to submit a memorandum to United Nations Military Observers Group (UNMOGIP) were killed and hundreds wounded by troops at the crossing here.

Srinagar, March 02 :The parents of a youth, Muhammad Yaseen Bhat yet to know whereabouts of their son arrested by Indian troops without any reason 10 years ago. 60-year old Sara Begum of Nowhatta has spent most of her time gazing at the door of her modest house to receive her son, Muhammad Yaseen Bhat. But every time she has to face disappointment.

Family of young boy to sue police officer for murder

Srinagar, March 09 ): In Srinagar, the family of a 13-year-old boy, Wamiq Farooq, has decided to file a formal complaint under section 302 of Criminal Procedure Code against the police officer, who was suspended for killing the boy by hitting him with a teargas shell at Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar on January 31, 2010.

US concerned over extra-judicial killings in Kashmir

Washington, March 12: The US State Department has expressed concern over reported extra-judicial killings of people in custody and torture and rape by police and other armed forces in Kashmir
The US State Department on Thursday reported widespread human rights violations in the Kashmir, including encounter killings, extra-judicial killings, disappearances and rapes.The department’s 2009 Human Rights report underlines dozens of violations in various parts of the Jammu and Kashmir.

Condition of widows, orphans miserable in Kashmir: Study report

Srinagar, March 12: The condition of most widows and orphans in occupied Kashmir is miserable as they face multi-dimensional problems, reveals a research study. The study blamed forces for harassing the orphan girls. “The orphan girls were continuously harassed by the security forces due to which dropout trend increased. This overall affected their mobility in life,” the study report said.

Student girl kidnapped, molested by Indian army men

Jammu, Mar 26: A minor girl was kidnapped by Indian Army personnel from Nowshera area of district Rajouri on March 12 was recovered from Jammu today. The 16-year-old kidnapped student, Jyoti Devi, 16, a class 10th student, resident of Namb, Kadali who was kidnapped by an army man returned home at Namb, Kadali in Nowshera tehsil of Rajouri district.

Army man Vikas Sharma of 13 JAKLI, who hails from Bal Dangra in Nowshera tehsil had been booked by police in kidnapping after parents of 15-year-old Jyoti Bala filed an FIR against him.

Indian Army man abducts, disgraced a school girl in Mendhar

Srinagar, April 3:  An Indian trooper of Territorial Army abducted and disgraced a12th student girl in Mendhar tehsil of Poonch district.
