Srinagar shutdown enters seventh day
Srinagar, February 7: The ongoing shutdown in Srinagar entered its seventh day, today, following the killing of Wanik Farooq, of Rainawari last Sunday. Farooq was killed by a police teargas shell in Rajouri Kadal last Sunday. Sixteen-year-old Zahid Farooq was shot in the chest, by forces near the office of Inspector General of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Kralsangri-Brain Nishat, on Friday. The teenager later succumbed to his injuries. Security arrangements have been made by the authorities at vital places to stop protest against the gross human rights violations.
The authorities have declared curfew in five areas of the city and locals are not allowed to come out of their houses. All shops, business establishments and government offices remained closed, and the traffic stayed off the roads.
But as the people of the valley were about to begin their normal life, in yet another incident, a teenager Zahid Farooq was killed by the Border Security Force (BSF) troops at Kralsangri-Brain Nishat, on Friday.
The locals are unhappy and said that the curfew and restrictions has affected their business and daily life .Nazir Ahmad, a local said, "We have our examination today and we are facing lot of problem because of the curfew."
