Shawl welcomes renewal of Pak- India dialogue

London, June 18 (KMS): The Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmad Shawl has welcomed the renewal of dialogue between India and Pakistan at the leadership level.

Professor Shawl in a statement issued in London hoped that the meeting in Russia between the President of Pakistan, Asif Ali Zardari and Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh would pave way for a constructive, productive and result-orientated engagement between the two countries.

He said that the focus of the engagement should be settlement of the Kashmir dispute and authentic voices of Kashmir should be included in the dialogue. The talks should have an ownership at the peoples level and it should win their trust, he added.

“As a prelude to the dialogue all draconian laws should be revoked and illegally detained Hurriyet leaders and activists should be released,” he emphasised.

Professor Shawl also condemned the arrest of a teenaged boy, Nayeem Ahmad Dar of Rainawari under PSA and shifting him to Kathua jail. He urged the world community and international human rights organisations to take strong notice of the continued gross human rights violations in occupied Kashmir and put pressure on New Delhi to resolve the Kashmir dispute in accordance with people’s aspirations
