Bhat, Geelani, Malik, others still under house arrest

Srinagar, May 10:  In Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir Salvation Movement, Zaffar Akbar Bhat, THK Chairman, Syed Ali Geelani, Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Nayeem Ahamd Khan and over a dozen other Hurriyet leaders continued to remain under house arrest on Sunday. 
Authorities had placed leaders under house arrest last month to prevent them from carrying out the poll boycott campaign. “They will be released after the final phase of polling in north Kashmir’s which would be held on May 13,” a wire agency UNI quoting official sources said. 
Syed Ali Geelani, was put under house arrest nearly one month ago after he addressed an election boycott rally at Lal Chowk in city center.  “Geelani sahib is not being allowed to leave his Haiderpora residence,” a THK) spokesman said.
The JKLF chairman, Yasin Malik, has been under house arrest for the past 19 days. He was put under house arrest after he had addressed an anti-election rally in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district last month. He couldn’t address any anti-poll rally in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Budgam districts where shame polling was held on May 7.
Meanwhile, Zaffar Akbar  Bhat said that the party activists continued with anti-election campaign in various areas of north Kashmir and urged the people to shun the electoral process and respect the sacrifices of martyrs. 
Meanwhile, an APHC spokesman has strongly criticized the authorities for keeping under house arrest Syed Ali Geelani, Yasin Malik, Zaffar Akber Bhat, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Javid Ahmad Mir, Syed Saleem Gilani and the detention of  Shabir Ahmad Dar and others. He also condemned continued detention of senior APHC leader and President of Democratic Freedom Party, (DFP) Shabir Ahmad Shah.
